The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
Your eligible deposits held by a UK establishment of Yorkshire Building Society are protected up to a total of £85,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the UK’s deposit guarantee scheme.
This limit is applied to the total of any deposits you have with the following: Yorkshire Building Society (including any deposits linked to an offset mortgage through our subsidiary Accord Mortgages Limited), Chelsea Building Society, Norwich & Peterborough Building Society and Egg. Any total deposits you hold above the limit between these brands are unlikely to be covered. For further information please call us on 0345 1200 100, ask at your local YBS branch, or visit the FSCS website at www.fscs.org.uk.
How does it work?
YBS is a participant of the FSCS. The FSCS can pay compensation to depositors if a building society is not able to meet its financial obligations.
Eligible deposits are protected up to a total of £85,000.
This limit is the total that you are protected across all of our brands. The brands include:
- Yorkshire Building Society (YBS)
- Chelsea (CBS)
- Egg
- Norwich & Peterborough (N&P)
For example, if you had:
- £50,000 in a YBS savings account
- £50,000 in a CBS savings account
- Total: £100,000
- £15,000 of your eligible deposits may not be protected by the FSCS scheme
The limit is per person. So, for a joint account held by two eligible depositors, the maximum amount that could be claimed is £170,000 (which is £85,000 each). This limit is across all of our brands.
